LITTLE BEACH
GENERAL INFORMATION
Many of our holiday units at Nelson Bay are located away from the main Commercial Centre and centered around Little Beach or the western end of Shoal Bay Beach called "Radburn Estate".
Little Beach boasts a 4 lane all tide boat ramp with fish cleaning tables and loads of trailer parking, plus marina with boats and moorings for hire. A very popular and safe beach for the children to swim, and a good picnic area with barbecues available.
The Western end of Shoal Bay beach faces the Heads with magnificent views, a wide clean beach and sparkling clean swimming waters. Normally a quiet beach and good also for swimming or angling.
Whether you choose to stay close to Little Beach or Shoal Bay Beach (Nelson Bay) they are within a 5 minute stroll of each other giving you plenty of choice.
LIGHTHOUSE MUSEUM
The historic lighthouse keeper's cottage offers visitors beautiful views, local history and information on marine rescue. The lighthouse cottage now operates as a museum of the regions local history.
At the eastern end of Nelson Bay is an elevated piece of land known as Nelson Head which separates Little Nelson Beach to the west from Shoal Bay to the east. On Nelson Head sits the Inner Lighthouse, dating from 1872 but still operating and classified by the National Trust. Originally lit by three kerosene lamps electric lights were installed in 1946. The system was recently automated. The cottage was built in 1875. This small cluster of buildings incorporates a modest historical display. There are also films, panoramic views, a tea room and a gift shop.
