Great views despite the fires
This was a great house for a week's break away from the city.
We were nervous about heading down south after the terrible summer of fires and when we arrived at the house it was clear it was very lucky to still be there- the next door block was just black stumps and ashes, several trees in the garden had caught alight and the grass was all gone. But I'm so glad we did.
Half the garden and the much of Bawley itself was still green and we saw tons of roos leaping about and black cockatoos roosting everyday. The view over the treetops to the ocean was breathtaking and sunrises were a joy. There were three great beaches about 5 mins drive (or 20 mins walk) away.
The house is well appointed, a good selection of kitchen equipment and it was a bonus that linen was provided. Beds were super comfy, but the couches could do with an upgrade. The huge dinner table was great with a wonderful view of the ocean. The view from the huge covered deck was even better.
I missed having air conditioning the few days when the wind was scorching or when it was very smoky, otherwise the house was well aired with lots of windows.
A major plus for us was the fly screens- every window and even the folding balcony doors were screened, which meant we were never troubled with bugs, day or night. Bliss!
The only issue for us was the lack of any blinds or curtains, even in the bedrooms. We solved this with eye masks, but if you were trying to put small kids to bed when it was still light or you were hoping for a lie-in then this could be a problem.
Otherwise, we loved the house. With the pool table and the piano it felt like staying at a friend's place. Looking forward to going back.
