Salamander Bay General Information

Named after the third convict fleet in 1791 Salamander Bay is predominately residential but is better known for having the largest shopping centre on the Tomaree Peninsula. Salamander Bay Shopping Centre offers an array of shops including Woolworths, Coles Supermarket, Country Target, a food court, newsagent and specialty stores. Surrounded by the Mambo Wetlands and national parkland Salamander offers a sanctuary for an abundance of native water birds and wildlife. Sandpiper Reserve, located on Salamander Way is a fantastic place to take the kids for a picnic lunch and to feed the local birdlife. Salamander Bay is undoubtedly the sport capital of the peninsula as it features Tomree Sport Complex, Tomaree Aquatic Centre and the Toboggan Hill Park.

Salamander Bay Attractions

There is something for the whole family in Salamander Bay ranging from Super Strike for the Bowling enthusiasts to the Toboggan Hill Park for the more adventurous. Whilst visiting the Toboggan Hill Park why not try your hand at indoor rock climbing, take the tractor train to the top of the mountain or try your luck in the giant maze or at mini golf. The Tomaree Aquatic Centre is open daily and features an 8 lane 50 metre pool, covered heated toddler pool, waterslide, kiosk, change room with showers and a picnic area with shade shelters and BBQ’s. Located on the outskirts of the shopping centre is the Salamander Bay Tavern which offers a relaxed atmosphere to have a meal, place a bet or enjoy a wine whist the kids play in the completely fenced children’s playground.
